Best safari experience of our lives

My wife and I have stayed in a number of Luxury safari lodges in South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Kenya.  We took our extended family of 8 (5 adults and 3 children aged 9-17 to Tapologo Lodge and can categorically say that we enjoyed the best safari experience of our lives.  The 5-bedroom lodge has privacy being situated along the Limpopo River with incredible birdlife and hippos and crocs taking advantage of the river ecosystem.  Each lodge bedroom comes with a perfect view, a deck to enjoy your morning coffee, high quality bedding and modern conveniences.  The 2 chalets include the same but with nice living areas and kitchenettes.  The family enjoyed the 2 large living areas in the lodge.  The staff were available to satisfy our every need including preparation of menus of our choice, arranging our bush dinners and breakfasts, making our nightly outside fire with accompanying drinks and appetizers, game drives with experienced trackers, daily laundry and housekeeping services, and more.  Our game drive provided numerous sightings of elephant’s herds and large populations of giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, impala, 4 leopard sightings and several lion sightings, together with many other general game. As our family said “this was the trip of a lifetime”. They have been spoiled as it would be difficult for any Africa safari trip to compare to Tapologo Lodge.

Amazing place to stay and relax between our morning and evening drives

We have recently returned from a trip to the Limpopo Lipadi Reserve and would like to express what a fabulous time we had.

We had the pleasure of staying in the Tapologo Lodge on the banks of the Limpopo which was an amazing place to stay and relax between our morning and evening drives exploring the Reserve.  The lodge was stunning, and the staff couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating throughout our stay.

We had the pleasure of eating at the Central each day where Indy and the team really looked after us both at the bar and with a varied and tasty menu including local cuisine. If you are lucky Indy will welcome you to dinner with an ululation call.

The real highlight of the trip however were the game drives.  During our morning and evening drives we were able to see many wild animals including zebras, giraffes, wildebeest, impala, a couple of beautiful leopards, a pack of wild dogs which Limpopo are famous for and over 120 species of birds. The finishing touch is the highlight of having an evening sundowner reminiscing about another fabulous day in Botswana.

Our stay in the lodge was so special

Set amongst the trees it was far enough away for some quiet time for ourselves but close enough to not feel left out . The bed was so comfortable and lots of room to relax and enjoy the tranquility.

The main lodge set alongside and sitting literally on the river was something very special , it’s amazing windows and lighting giving every opportunity to see all the sights and sounds of this special place on the reserve . 9 of us enjoyed a fabulous week at Tapologo lodge , making use of the infinity pool , dining area and awesome bar , not forgetting the star gazing from the roof top deck.

Well appointed , well looked after , and everything you need for a memorable stay at Limpopo Lipadi.

We will be back for a 3 rd visit we hope.

An amazing experience

I stayed at Tapologo Lodge this past January and had an amazing experience. I stayed in one of the two chalets on the property, which was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. The room managed to feel modern while still fitting perfectly with the Game Reserve vibe, creating a really relaxed and authentic atmosphere.

The staff were all incredibly friendly and went out of their way to make guests feel welcome. Our dinners were catered and always top quality. Most mornings and afternoons (weather permitting), I went on game drives, which were unforgettable — each one felt unique and the guides were highly knowledgeable and passionate about the area. During downtime, I’d swim in the pool overlooking the river, grab a drink from the bar, and relax with a book in one of the many peaceful spots around the property. Tapologo is a must-visit — I can’t recommend it highly enough!

Botswana is a wonderful country

We arrived at Limpopo Lipadi late afternoon, to be welcomed at the beautiful lodge by the housekeeping staff and our guide for the next few days. The lodge was immaculate, with stunning views over the River Limpopo. The staff could not be more helpful and welcoming.

Having settled in that first afternoon, we wandered off to 'Central' for sustenance after a long days travelling, where we were greeted by the superb Indy, who operated as front of house, Maitre de and bar keeper. With much charm she welcomed us to Central, served us drinks at the bar, and eventually serenaded us to our candlelit table when our supper was ready. She introduced us to the 'food doctors'  and announced our menu for the evening.

The service could not have been more attentive, empty glasses were replaced with full ones, our empty plates removed seamlessly and silently. the service was outstanding. This continued throughout our stay, Central is on the banks of the Limpopo river too, and the setting is amazing.

Our safari started in earnest early the next morning, where we were introduced to the traditional rusks dipped in early morning coffee, what a treat. our guides were friendly, helpful, extremely knowledgeable, and knew where to find the animals and birds we came to see. Amongst the many animals we saw, and in spite of the lush bush due to the recent rains, highlights were seeing leopards on more than one occasion, tracking the breeding herd of elephants one morning, the wild dogs, rhino, and the beautiful and elegant giraffe, a favourite of ours. We had coffee and more rusks out in the bush mid morning, and sundowners during the afternoon safari.

We were blessed to be allowed to visit the two local schools in the nearby village, what a humbling experience! The teachers were dedicated and enthusiastic, and the children were eager to learn, and beautifully turned out. We have so much to learn from this uplifting experience.

Would we visit again? At a drop of a hat!
