ABOUT TAPOLOGO
Where is Tapologo River Lodge?
Tapologo is set on the banks of the Limpopo River within the Limpopo-Lipadi Private Wildlife & Wilderness Reserve in Botswana's Tuli Block.

What makes Tapologo different?
Tapologo is best understood as a private safari home rather than a traditional lodge. Set on the Limpopo River, it offers space, privacy and a flexible safari experience shaped around each group rather than a fixed lodge schedule. Guests can spend their days exploring the reserve or simply slow down and enjoy the river, wildlife and wilderness around them.

Is Tapologo exclusive-use?
Yes. Tapologo is offered exclusively on a private-use basis, giving families and private groups complete privacy, flexibility and personal service throughout their stay.

FAMILIES & ACCOMMODATION
How many guests can stay at Tapologo?
Tapologo accommodates up to 10 guests across the Main Lodge and two private River Suites. The Main Lodge has three double bedrooms and sleeps up to six guests, while each River Suite has one large double bedroom and living area.

Is Tapologo suitable for families?
Yes. Its private-use format, generous living spaces and flexible safari schedule make Tapologo particularly well suited to families and multigenerational groups.

What is the child policy?
Children aged 10 years and older are welcomed. Younger children may be accepted by prior written arrangement. As Tapologo is within an unfenced wildlife reserve, children must be closely supervised, and some safari activities have separate age restrictions.

Does Tapologo have Wi-Fi?
Yes. Starlink Wi-Fi is available at the Main Lodge and River Suites.

Can Tapologo cater for dietary requirements?
Yes. Please let us know about any dietary requirements when booking so that our team can prepare appropriately.

WILDLIFE & SAFARI
What wildlife can guests see?
Limpopo-Lipadi is home to a wide variety of wildlife including elephant, lion, leopard, white rhino, African wild dog, giraffe, hippo, crocodile and many other species. Wildlife is free-ranging, so no particular sighting can ever be guaranteed.

Can guests see the Big Five?
Limpopo-Lipadi is home to lion, leopard, elephant and white rhino. Wild buffalo are not present in the Tuli Block because of the region's strict veterinary controls associated with foot-and-mouth disease. Rather than focusing on a Big Five checklist, the safari experience at Tapologo is about the wider wilderness, including rhino, African wild dog, abundant birdlife and the landscapes of the Tuli Block.

Can guests see rhino and African wild dogs?
Yes. Limpopo-Lipadi is home to white rhino and African wild dogs. Rhino tracking on foot with members of the reserve's Anti-Poaching Unit may be available as an additional experience, while African wild dogs may be encountered during game drives and other safari activities. As with all free-ranging wildlife, sightings cannot be guaranteed.

What safari activities are available?
Guests have their own private safari vehicle and professional guide, with game drives, night drives, guided walks, birding and stargazing forming part of the Tapologo experience. Depending on availability and conditions, additional experiences may include rhino tracking, wilderness sleep-outs, conservation activities and selected community and local excursions.

Can guests see wildlife from the lodge?
Yes. Tapologo overlooks the Limpopo River and nearby waterholes, so wildlife and birdlife can often be observed without leaving the lodge. Hippos, crocodiles and elephants may be seen around the river and waterholes, while antelope, zebra, giraffe and warthogs are among the other animals that may be seen from the lodge. A wide variety of birds can also be enjoyed from the lodge and river deck. As with all wildlife, sightings naturally vary.

Is Tapologo good for birdwatching?
Yes. More than 300 bird species have been recorded in Limpopo-Lipadi, including all of Southern Africa's celebrated Big Six bird species. The Limpopo River and surrounding riverine forest make birding particularly rewarding around Tapologo itself.

Can guests go stargazing at Tapologo?
Yes. Tapologo's remote wilderness setting offers wonderfully dark night skies, and the Main Lodge has a dedicated Star Deck with a telescope. Stargazing can also form part of evenings in the reserve or a wilderness sleep-out.

GETTING HERE
How do guests get to Tapologo?
Tapologo can be reached by road or light aircraft from South Africa or Botswana. Road and air transfers can also be arranged, and detailed travel information is available on our Getting Here page.

How long is the drive from Johannesburg?
Tapologo is approximately 550 km from Johannesburg and the journey usually takes around 6–7 hours, depending on border procedures, stops and road conditions.

Can guests fly to Tapologo?
Yes. Limpopo-Lipadi has its own private airstrip and light-aircraft transfers can be arranged. Routing and immigration requirements should be confirmed when booking.

PLANNING YOUR STAY
How many nights should guests stay?
The minimum stay is two nights. A longer stay allows guests to settle into Tapologo's slower rhythm, enjoy the river setting and experience a wider range of safari and wilderness activities.

What is included in a stay?
A stay at Tapologo includes exclusive use of the lodge, meals, selected drinks, a dedicated lodge team, private safari vehicle and selected guided safari activities. Please see our current Rates page or rate sheet for full inclusions and additional experiences.

What is the best time to visit the Tuli Block?
The Tuli Block is a year-round destination. The dry season brings drier landscapes and greater wildlife activity around remaining water sources, while the greener summer months bring lush vegetation, dramatic skies, migratory birdlife and a different rhythm to the reserve. The best time depends on what guests would most like to experience.

COMBINING YOUR SAFARI
Can Tapologo be combined with other safari destinations?
Yes. Tapologo's location in eastern Botswana makes it easy to include in a wider Southern African journey. It can be combined with the Okavango Delta and other parts of Botswana, or with safari and holiday destinations in neighbouring South Africa, depending on routing and travel plans.
