By Road
Tapologo is accessible via well-maintained tar roads from both Botswana and South Africa, making self-drive or private road transfers a straightforward and scenic option.
From Gaborone, the drive is approximately 480 km (around 4.5 to 5 hours).
From Johannesburg, the drive is approximately 550 km (around 6 to 7 hours). The route passes through the dramatic Waterberg region, with excellent opportunities to stop for meals or overnight stays along the way.
From Polokwane, the drive is approximately 250 km (around 3.5 to 4 hours).
For guests travelling from South Africa, the reserve is conveniently accessed via several border posts:
Platjan Border Post: approximately 1 hour from the reserve gate
Martin’s Drift Border Post: approximately 1 hour 45 minutes
Stockpoort Border Post: approximately 2 hours 30 minutes
Lephalale and the wider Waterberg region offer a range of comfortable halfway hotels for those preferring to break the journey, and there are several recommended stops along the route from Johannesburg for dining and rest.
From the reserve’s western gate, it is a further 20-minute drive on a well-maintained dirt road through Limpopo-Lipadi to the lodge reception. A member of the team will meet you at the gate and accompany you on arrival.
Detailed driving directions are available on request, and we are happy to assist with route planning based on your point of departure.
By Air
For guests preferring to fly, Limpopo-Lipadi has its own private airstrip within the reserve.
Flights are typically arranged via Limpopo Valley Airfield (Limpopo Valley Connect), operated by Mashatu, which handles scheduled and charter services into the region.
A typical route is as follows:
Depart Johannesburg (Lanseria Airport recommended for regional charters; OR Tambo is a 45-minute drive away)
Fly to Limpopo Valley Airfield for immigration and customs clearance (approx. 1 hour 45 minutes)
Continue by light aircraft to Limpopo-Lipadi airstrip (approx. 20 minutes)
From the airstrip, guests are met and transferred by road to the lodge.
Travel Notes
We work with a selection of trusted transfer partners for both road and air travel and can coordinate the full journey on your behalf. Routes through the Waterberg region are particularly scenic, and many guests choose to turn the journey into part of their Southern African travel experience.
